Interview with Li Hui

Li Hui ("LH") interviewed on Tuesday, 17 November.

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?

LH : My parents are both teachers, which makes me have a good education since childhood. When I was a child, I liked drawing and making models. After entered university, I chose the industrial design major combining technology and art according to my interests. After graduation, I first entered a very famous international trust and investment company in China to work. Because it was not consistent with my major, I resigned two years later and founded my own design Accounting company. In the mid-1990s, under the influence of my father, he thought that electric vehicles would become the development trend in the future. From then on, I began to study technology. I have been engaged in this industry for many years, working, studying, designing and paving the way.

How did you become a designer?

LH : When I was 5 years old, I liked painting, making model airplanes, model cars and model boats. These hobbies made me choose the major of industrial design combining technology and art when I was in college, which eventually made me an industrial designer. I hope that the products designed under the combination of art and technology can be really used by human beings, so I am very happy to finally become an industrial design Teacher, because this is my childhood dream.

What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?

LH : In the design of electric vehicles, my priority is to determine the market positioning, to determine the style of products with technology and art, and to verify the design through computer model making.

Which emotions do you feel when designing?

LH : If I design a product with a soul, I will see it as fulfilling as my own child.

What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?

LH : Since I was a child, I only like the combination of technology and technology to meet the needs of a small number of people. I think it is very important for me to combine art and design to meet this special requirements.

What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?

LH : I have already introduced that I chose this major because of my interests and hobbies. I think becoming a designer is a very meaningful thing. In the future, I will work hard to make my products recognized by more people. I dream of being able to design a more perfect electric car and make it a classic product for everyone to recognize.

What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?

LH : I hope that just started designers don't think they are right, they should try to learn their professional skills, have a broader vision, have a deep understanding of their products, learn to think, can't exaggerate their feelings, seriously study and precipitate in the professional field, and patiently become a qualified professional designer.

You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?

LH : Only when you get the appreciation of almost everyone and everyone is very appreciative of the product you designed, it will be a real success.

What is your day to day look like?

LH : Deal with all the problems in daily work, make continuous progress, keep an optimistic attitude, listen to music and watch concept design, which will enlighten me.

How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?

LH : I do product design, in the design to understand the future technology and design trends, I will absorb the world's excellent elements, refining elements for their own design.

How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?

LH : A good design work will give people a refreshing feeling, so that we can see it, we will like it very much when we understand it, and more people will recognize it. Only in this way can we show that this design is appropriate and a good design.

How do you decide if your design is ready?

LH : I think design is a work that never stops. Making adjustments according to different periods to make the design more perfect. When almost everyone agrees with it, it is a successful design work.

What is your biggest design work?

LH : I am a designer engaged in the design of electric vehicles. I love my family very much. I see my three-year-old son in my life. He is very cute, naive and like a fairy in the forest. So I give me a design inspiration. I want to make a green new energy small electric vehicle, which is convenient and environmentally friendly. In 2016, I started to work on this design. After about a year, I finished the design and named him the spirit. This mini electric vehicle has the minimum size and lightweight design, and has obtained the new standard of EU e168 / 2013. Its stamping body and standard injection molding parts make its performance excellent protection. At the same time, the lovely appearance has won the favor of most consumers in the market.

Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?

LH : I am the boss of a company. My daily job is to deal with all the problems in the company. At the same time, I will ask myself to make continuous progress in the design aspect. I will keep an optimistic attitude. Listening to music and watching conceptual design will enlighten me in my design work.

Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?

LH : When I was a child, I was able to combine the art design and the industrial model of my parents. I hope that when I was a child, I could combine the art design and the industrial model with my parents, So I'm very happy to finally become an industrial designer, because this is my childhood dream. I currently run a company, and I hope to make the company better and better, so that my employees can have a happy life.

What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award?

LH : In order to prove that our product design is international and has a certain foundation and level, so I decided to participate in the international design competition. In this process, I saw that my product was also recognized by many people, and also made me understand the relationship between design and product standards. More skilled use of it will be a great supplement to my future design.
