Interview with Annemarie Ambrosoli

Annemarie Ambrosoli ("AA") interviewed on Friday, 17 May.

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?

AA : I am a freelance artist since 2008, previously I was a pupil of my uncle Ercole Frigoli, painter, since very young. He introduced me to the technique of oil painting as well as to the love of nature. I attended courses at the Summer Academy of Bruneck (BZ) in the years 1992/1996 under the guidance of Professors Claus Pack, for the section "landscape" and Reinhard Adlmannseder, for the section "nude, portrait and figure". I attended drawing courses. I currently work for private clients, who are collectors

How did you become a designer?

AA : For a long time I painted the landscape "en plain air", but in 2016 I had the desire to look for new ideas and the stylized and original characters that I paint currently excite me enormously. As a designer I am still at the beginning, but I already have many ideas of how to bring my work as an artist in the design sector

What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?

AA : The study of my designs is very accurate to give strength and visual impact. Each work has been designed in detail. The circles, the games of the lines, the originality of the hats, the earrings, the dresses give great strength to the scene. The technique of watercolor with its transparencies enriches the shapes and colors that overlap creating new nuances. Many layers of watercolor are made to achieve the right degree of color. Considering that with the watercolor technique no errors are allowed, the paintings must be very accurate and must be well programmed

Which emotions do you feel when designing?

AA : When the idea that I want to put on the drawing pad is born, this is already an exciting phase. Because the idea is one thing, but realizing it is another thing. My designs require inventiveness and must be absolutely original in creation. During the design I have to be very calm and this allows me to get a good and very satisfactory initial result. Obviously if the finished work is successful, I have a great happiness, I feel totally positive and I feel satisfied

What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?

AA : My artistic path was born as a painter, but after changing my way of expressing myself in art, a new world has opened up, that of design, and now I feel ready to create designs that can be applied in different categories, like jewelry or fashion

What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?

AA : In my opinion, the path to becoming an artist or designer is very long and tiring, one must have tenacity and willpower and not be upset by obstacles and difficulties and if one believes in oneself, one must continue on the chosen path. Furthermore, the constant presence on the market is important to be known

What is your day to day look like?

AA : My greatest joy is to start the day with the preparations to design the new idea. In fact these new ideas of mine must be unique and must not be repeated. Usually I start drawing immediately, but it can happen that I want to find some suggestions and in this case I look at art or design books. Moreover, if I can dedicate myself only to my art, for me the days are never boring but rather exciting

How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?

AA : For the moment I do not follow design trends, but my desire is to follow my personal style, because I would like my designs to reflect my emotions that are transferred to those who observe the final work

How do you decide if your design is ready?

AA : There is certainly the moment when I think that I no longer have to continue and that the work is really over. Sometimes it happens, however, to have an afterthought and therefore I have to decide if I have to make changes or if it is better not to do so. Personally, in my oil paintings I have clear ideas about how design should be and what colors I have to put on the canvas, it can happen that sometimes I want to change something and this is possible, while if I paint watercolor the drawings and shades of watercolor applied can no longer be changed and therefore if I am not satisfied I cannot make corrections and I have to start a new design

What is your biggest design work?

AA : One of my work that has really thrilled me and of which I am proud is certainly a big artwork, which was purchased at a fair in Hong Kong, to which I have participated. The title of the work is: " It's snowing". The idea was born on a winter day when it was snowing outside and seeing the big snowflakes fall, the idea was born to draw a window, small and numerous white circles to tell the snow. The very original characters that contemplate from inside the winter landscape are very stylized, very simplified, have particular and original hairstyles, that are only in my immagination and fantasy. The drafting of the color is flat, there are no shadows, but the tones of the colors are all different from each other. This work has been very appreciated by the customer. I currently work on other projects to get ready for the next fair

Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?

AA : I live in the mountains, in a wonderful tourist area. A great location to have peace of mind and to be able to create. When I have to leave my country I exhibit at art fairs in large cities, including non-European cities, where I am faced with other peoples and different cultures. These different cultures also influence my work. It is a culture told through my works. The stories that can be appreciated in my paintings are everyday stories, moments of life. Above all, dialogue is at the center of all my work. From the movement of the mouth we can understand that the represented figures want to tell something and this is what I want to convey through my works. When I'm in my environment I listen to classical music that helps me relax. The purpose of creating new works is for me the stimulus to present something new to those who will appreciate my works. My artworks are suitable for design creations. In this sense I have many different ideas

Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?

AA : I am a freelance artist and would be happy to meet new clients to present my work. I would like to have contacts of clients who wish to order a work on commission

What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award?

AA : Having participated in a design Award was for me a great satisfaction, I had the way to present my work of my new and recent project. I got to better understand the work of the designer and especially having received this Award I hope that my work will be appreciated by many people and a collaboration can also be born in the design sector. For the remarkable, important, precious and well-structured advertising campaign, and not only, organized from the A Design Award I am sure that this will bring me considerable advantages in the future. I am available for important and relevant contacts. Being the designer of the day makes me happy and excited.
