Interview with Lampo Leong

Lampo Leong ("LL") interviewed on Friday, 1 May.

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?

LL : Lampo Leong, PhD, Central Academy of Fine Arts, MFA, California College of the Arts, is an internationally acclaimed artist and designer, and currently Distinguished Professor, Doctoral Advisor and Director of Centre for Arts and Design at the University of Macau. Leong is also a Professor Emeritus at the University of Missouri-Columbia, Visiting Professor at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and has been named the Weiner Distinguished Professor at the Missouri University of Science & Technology. Leong has presented over 200 lectures across the US and Asia at international conferences and institutions such as Stanford University, University of California at Berkeley, UC Davis, Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, College Art Association 92nd Annual Conference, Yeongwol Museum International Forum in Korea, Sichuan University, Chongqing University, Wuhan University, South China University of Technology, Shanghai University, Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, China Academy of Art, and National Taiwan Normal University. Leong has also served as curator and judge for more than 20 art exhibitions, for example, the Best of America national juried exhibition, the 47th Annual Juried Exhibition by the Sumi-E Society of America.

Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?

LL : Centre for Arts and Design (CAD) at the University of Macau focuses on education, research and service in the fields of art, design, digital media and new media. CAD collaborates with the departments of Communication, History, and the Faculty of Education for MA and PhD programs in visual communication to cultivate talents in creative media for Macao and the Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Through establishing a platform for international exchange and collaborations in interdisciplinary research projects, CAD endeavors to promote creativity in the fields of arts, design, and creative media internationally. While technologies and arts are inseparably associated, it is our hope that the synthesis of new media and arts could be utilized to diversify Macao’s economy, enhancing the development of the cultural and creative industry, and to ensure a sustainable competitive advantage for Macao towards a world-class tourism and leisure center.
