Interview with Harun Ayaydın

Harun Ayaydın ("HA") interviewed on Friday, 30 November.

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?

HA : I have started to my design career in high school period. I was curious about architecture and product design since then. For the university degree, I have completed firstly interior architecture and then, the architecture major degrees. Now I still continue to my Masters degree at Architecture in İstanbul. Within all this time, I have worked for many companies in terms of product and space design. And I would like to continue design and produce new things throughout my life.

How did you become a designer?

HA : I like the ability to realize all ideas in the real life and it gives me an ultimate satisfaction to create new products, places and establish new buildings. This was the main idea of becoming a designer. I think I leave many designs behind myself when I passed away. In the university, I have completed restoration, interior architecture and architecture degrees respectively. . Now I still continue to my Masters degree at Architecture in İstanbul.

What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?

HA : When a design idea pops in my mind, firstly I conduct a deep research. Then I evaluate the uniqueness of this idea and change it many times. But the most important thing is that I try to use golden proportion in all my design works, I think this is substantial.

Which emotions do you feel when designing?

HA : Actually all parts of the design process has its beauty in itself however, I think the most exciting part is when you catch a new idea in your mind.

What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?

HA : Of course there are architectures as role models for me. First places belong to Sinan the Architect and Leonardo Da Vinci. But the most important person in my career who helped and developed me was Mater.Arch.Hüseyin Başçetinçelik.

What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?

HA : I would like to spread my design works and also my name to the whole world. Actually I have to get more experienced regarding the competitions and perform much more amount of work.

What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?

HA : At the moment I’m at the beginning of this road, so I can only advice everyone to work hard.

You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?

HA : Doing everything you do with love and passion.

What is your day to day look like?

HA : I get up early in the morning and go to work and draw something. Try to finish my work and then go out to socialize with my friends. Sport is very favorable.At least four evenings a week is very helpful in designing as well.

How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?

HA : I catch up new trends with social media, magazines and travels.

How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?

HA : As long as they are not copy, every project has good parts in itself. In fact, how people approach to an object or stucture. The taste of design is always relative, everyone can enjoy different things..

How do you decide if your design is ready?

HA : First of all, missing things have to be completed in my mind, then, I show it to my close friends and finalize according to their opinions.

What is your biggest design work?

HA : My biggest project. It is a sales office that I have designed in Riva region in Istanbul. The design of the building is derived from a leaf form with biomimicry design perception.

Who is your favourite designer?

HA : There are two people actually First: Big Sinan the Architect and Second: Leonardo Da Vinci

Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?

HA : The culture I live is actually called as modern Turkish culture and I am very happy about it. The place I live in is a location where many civilizations have been hosted for centuries. I think my design works inherit a big part of Turkish culture and tradition.

Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?

HA : My business philosophy based on mainly honesty and hardwork.

What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?

HA : I try to support people coming from lower socioeconomic background in terms of material and the spiritual side.

What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award?

HA : When it comes to the competitions I have attended during past years, I have met with many colleagues and they have become my friends and I have now more popularity in social media. I have seen different designs and designers and am very happy about it.
