About Sanaz Doost

Sanaz Doost is a jewelry designer based in Toronto/Canada. She was born and lived in Shiraz/Iran. At the age of 18 years old, She left her country to pursue her dream to become a designer while exploring the world. After gaining her various degrees of Industrial Design, Philosophy of art and Photography in different countries while traveling the world as a global nomad, she decided to settle in a place and go back to school, so at George brown college of Toronto/Canada she got the advanced diploma in jewelry arts. Finally Sanaz decided to end her journey of world traveling after 12 years, and started to work as a self-employed jewelry designer/maker at Toronto to begin her career. Those 12 years of non stop traveling the world from east to west and exploring the different jewelry making methods in various regions and countries, and her background in industrial design and art, gave her incomparable experiences and understanding of jewelry design, which she continues to pull from today to create her unique pieces. Sanaz's favourite part of the jewelry design process is the endless journey of creation.

Interview with Sanaz Doost

Sanaz Doost ("SD") interviewed on Monday, 13 September.

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?

SD : When I was 18years old, at 2006 I started my Design journey by studiyng Industrial Design and continued with studying philosophy of art, and then photography and Jewelry arts.

How did you become a designer?

SD : As a child I was always looking for solutions and redesign everything in my mind. I can't live without imagination and creativity, I believe I was born to create.

What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?

SD : priorities: 1.comfortable 2.unique 3.outstanding yes I believe in technology and I use the latest ones, I make mock ups and physiscal models by using CAD technology and 3d printers.

Which emotions do you feel when designing?

SD : emotions: excitment which phase: touching the final product is the most exciting part for me. being able to create and touch what it was in my imagination is what I like the most about designing. designing gives me energy, power and satisfaction.

What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?

SD : exploring the art galleries and museums as a child was the reason I ended up styling art and design.

What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?

SD : to grow my design studio and open my design store is my number 1 plan for future.

What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?

SD : don't disappoint, don't listen to others.

You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?

SD : just focus on your dream and try to achieve it every single day.

What is your day to day look like?

SD : designing from morning till evening and imaganing the when I don't design.

How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?

SD : I don't follow trends.

How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?

SD : I'll make lots of prototype and samples to make sure it works.

How do you decide if your design is ready?

SD : I will try the samples and prototypes myself for at least 2 months to make sure it works and doesn't need any change.

What is your biggest design work?

SD : Moshabak Ring which won the A'design award 2021 is my biggest design work. I'm really proud.

Who is your favourite designer?

SD : Van Gogh / Zaha Hadid

Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?

SD : Paris is my favourite city. Fusion music is part of my creative process. 100% my Persian roots effects my designs. I'm in my studio in Toronto, Canada working on my next collection. Design is necessary for any society because without good design we won't have a quality life.

Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?

SD : I work alone, loneliness is what I need to be able to design.

What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?

SD : being involve with humanitarian projects is a must for any artist/designer.

What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award?

SD : A'design award is the most important design award to any designer, I was over the moon when I found out I have won 2 A'design awards in 2021! So happy and proud.
