Interview with kalbod studio

kalbod studio ("KS") interviewed on Wednesday, 14 June.

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?

KS : My name is Mohammad Rahimizadeh. I am a graduate of the University of Tehran and I have been doing design for 14 years. During this time, I have designed various projects with different applications and I have been a finalist or winner of several international design competitions, the latest of which was A awards 2022.

How did you become a designer?

KS : My grandfather was the most important motivation for me to become a designer. He was one of the most famous experimental architects in Iran who created designed many buildings and I am always proud of him.

What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?

KS : We first try to have enough knowledge about the subject and examine all the challenges of the project, then we turn all the cases into a series of diagrams, and in the next step we turn these diagrams into etudes and initial designs. In the next step. We finalize and complete the project concept .

Which emotions do you feel when designing?

KS : Designing gives me a sense of power. I find it fascinating that I can create something .When I focus on a project, I feel suspended in space. A kind of movement in time and place.

What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?

KS : In my opinion, a designer should first be a psychologist, sociologist and researcher Your point of view will be very effective in the design process. In the next step you need the skill of analyzing space and form like a sculptor. Understanding the proportions correctly. And in the last stage, experience is the most important issue

What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?

KS : We are developing studios in Dubai and Toronto. We strive to be an international collection with world standards .We are designing a concept island in Dubai, an island for 2040

What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?

KS : One of the points that I always tell my colleagues is to try to increase their power of analysis and visualization of space and the next point is to study and analyze the works of other architects. There are many points that architects have addressed and by studying them, lessons can be learned.

You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?

KS : As a developing collection, we are very focused on the design process. That is, we try to take each project step by step At each stage, a number of project challenges will be solved This is a great path for any professional collection

What is your day to day look like?

KS : I am in the office every day at 8 am. Usually in the mornings we talk about the challenge of the projects with my colleagues and in the evening I inspect the projects. Various meetings with employers and executives are other topics in my daily routine. Lately, I also study and analyze the works of famous architects

How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?

KS : We always review and learn from all the events and projects of friends and colleagues in the studio Architecture and design is a very dynamic subject, which means that it is not possible to be in a closed space and body of communication for a long time and always produce successful works. The mind of the designer must always be changing

How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?

KS : It does not have a specific rule. Many times the designer thinks that the design should be much more successful, but it is not. In my opinion, the most important criteria is the designer's experience and thinking .In my opinion, it can be successful if the project responds to its environmental challenges and is properly evaluated aesthetically.

How do you decide if your design is ready?

KS : After the concept of the project is finalized, first a model is made, then we try to solve the executive problems, and then the executive plans are prepared with high accuracy. At this stage, if all the items are done correctly, the design is ready

What is your biggest design work?

KS : This bridge project, which won the competition, is one of the most important projects we have designed so far I think it can be very effective both in terms of design and project location The combination of traditional architecture of Isfahan with modern elements has become an attractive combination

Who is your favourite designer?

KS : Zaha Hadid-Norman Foster-

Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?

KS : I live in Tehran, Iran. We grew up here with a rich source of architecture and culture. Our traditional architecture has contributed significantly to the global growth and development of the designing industry over the years.

Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?

KS : In Atelier, I am always looking for quality colleagues who have no other concern than progress in architecture The financial issue is always the last issue for me, the project itself and the employer, and the issues that I can influence in the project. We are looking for progress, we are looking to become better architects of this philosophy of our work

What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?

KS : Every year we try to design a school for charities for free This is one of the contributions you can miss Another issue is to try to move towards sustainable designs and a world without carbon
