Interview with Gabriela Herde

Gabriela Herde ("GH") interviewed on Wednesday, 14 June.

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?

GH : Since 2010, the head of the office that carries her name, Gabriela Herde, works with a focus on high-end residential and commercial projects. Graduated in Design and Architecture and Urbanism, her projects are characterized by the use of noble and natural materials, always valuing sustainability and respect for the environment. Consolidated and recognized office, investsin a motivated team composed of architects and designers. Adept of constant renewal, participates annually in some of the main courses, events and exhibitions,national and international, She believes that these events contribute to her creative process.

How did you become a designer?

GH : Design was my first college, later I graduated in architecture, I decided to do design because of my passion for creating, from a very early age.

What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?

GH : When designing, I always try to develop something original and unique, I pay attention to the client's wishes and try to translate his dream into paper.

Which emotions do you feel when designing?

GH : I always feel butterflies in my stomach when starting a new project, because it's a world of possibilities that opens up, I always learn a lot with each new project.

What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?

GH : I am particularly interested in quality and not quantity, I dedicate myself personally with my team to each project, I always try to develop projects that, in addition to being beautiful, are functional and sustainable.

What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?

GH : I believe that I have a beautiful path ahead of me, my future plans are to keep working, always offering the best of myself and dedicating myself every day to making cities more pleasant with my architecture, my dream is that all people in the world could have the chance to live in comfortable houses, with basic sanitation and protection.

What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?

GH : Be creative, work hard!

You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?

GH : I think what's important is that you do what you like, that way you'll go a long way.

What is your day to day look like?

GH : I don't have a routine, my day to day varies a lot, I divide myself between projects, works, work trips, fairs, and it's always very busy and rewarding to work with what we love.

How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?

GH : I travel a lot to keep up with trends, I'm always present at the main design fairs in the world.

How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?

GH : I like innovation, creativity and quality, and for me good design comes down to that.

How do you decide if your design is ready?

GH : A project is never ready, lol... we always have something else to do, just like great works are always under construction.

What is your biggest design work?

GH : Its RIVERSIDE 01.

Who is your favourite designer?

GH : I love Isay Weinfeld.

Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?

GH : I'm Brazilian, I live in the south of the country, in the state of Santa Catarina, I have a beautiful family, I love what I do, architecture is something that excites me.

Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?

GH : In my office we believe that quantity is not quality, we strive for few and good projects.

What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?

GH : I would love to contribute to society through needy communities, providing decent housing for everyone.

What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award?

GH : It was very positive and enriching to participate in this award, it made me believe more in my potential.
