Yuko Inamine is a designer based in Okinawa. Using plants and animals as motifs, she creates many designs for kids and ladies. She specializes in cute designs that add color to your room and lifestyle, and is characterized by her colorfulness. She is interested in woodworking and much of her work deals with wood. With her background in Japanese culture, she explores convenience and flexibility in her designs.
Yuko Inamine ("YI") interviewed on Wednesday, 14 June.
YI : When I was little, I wanted to be a toy store, a florist, and a school teacher. I continued to study design while obtaining an art teacher's license at university. During that time, I noticed that I was interested in items around children, and I started to specialize in learning toys and interiors for children. I have loved stuffed animals since I was a child, and I design designs that make the most of my own characteristics.
YI : Okinawa, where I live, is an island rich in nature, so I often create works inspired by nature. I also like to communicate through mockups and prototypes.
YI : The designer I admire the most is Ettore Sottsass.
