Read more..Mea’ad is the owner and principle of Mea'ad-Design Firme. Her Interior Design degree, which she completed at Dar Al-Hekma College in Jeddah, has given a strong foundation to her technical skills which she decided to develop further by working on a different scale, thus determining her choice of a Masters in Product Design. Designing involves a lot of long, complex and intricate processes and the application of basic practical skills, so it was crucial for her to pursue her advanced studies in a motivating and challenging environment. Mea’ad chose to join ECAL, a prominent school of design based in Lausanne, because their curriculum is based on projects that students undertake under the supervision of renowned designers and are presented to the Research & Development teams of distinctive brands in the luxury industry. Mea’ad is a member of Saudi Council of Engineers since 2007, and she has chosen to be the best interior designer 2011 and been awarded the International Design award from Los Angeles. Mea’ad's works and achievements have appeared in TVs, magazines and international newspapers.
Mea'ad Al-Abboud ("MA") interviewed on Sunday, 23 March.
MA : Design is more than a profession for me—it’s a way of shaping environments and creating meaningful experiences. Over the past decade, I’ve had the privilege of working on diverse projects, from bespoke interiors to large-scale architectural developments. At Meaad Design, I focus on blending innovation with cultural and environmental sensitivity, ensuring each project tells a unique story. My journey has led me to collaborate with visionary clients and push creative boundaries, resulting in projects that redefine luxury, functionality, and sustainability. Notable works include a Luxuery Palace, which received an award. Beyond design, I mentor emerging talent and advocate for a balance between artistry, technical precision, and human-centric solutions. For me, the true reward lies in seeing ideas materialize into spaces that inspire and endure. Whether a modern villa or a culturally rooted commercial space, my goal is always to craft designs that resonate on a deeper level.
MA : My path to design was shaped by a deep curiosity for aesthetics, structure, and how spaces influence human emotions. Growing up, I was always drawn to architecture and art, sketching ideas and observing how environments shaped people’s experiences. That passion led me to pursue formal education in design and architecture, where I refined my technical skills and learned the power of storytelling through space. One of the defining moments in my career was working on my first major project—a boutique hotel that required a balance between modern minimalism and cultural authenticity. The process of transforming a concept into a tangible experience solidified my belief in the impact of design. At Meaad Design, we see design as a bridge between functionality and emotion. Every project is an opportunity to push boundaries while staying true to a timeless aesthetic. My journey has been shaped by incredible mentors, hands-on experience, and a constant desire to innovate.
MA : Three principles define my design philosophy: functionality, timelessness, and emotional connection. A well-designed space must serve a purpose, stand the test of time, and evoke a meaningful response. Whether designing a residence or a commercial space, I prioritize materials, proportions, and natural elements to create a seamless blend of beauty and practicality. My approach combines both traditional and digital techniques. I start with hand-drawn sketches to explore ideas freely, then refine them using advanced 3D visualization and modeling tools. This hybrid method allows for creativity while ensuring precision. While trends can offer inspiration, I believe in crafting designs that transcend fleeting fads. At Meaad Design, we emphasize timeless aesthetics, sustainable practices, and a deep respect for cultural heritage, ensuring each project remains relevant for generations.
MA : Design is an emotional process, and every stage evokes a different feeling. The initial concept phase is filled with excitement—an open canvas where possibilities are limitless. As the design takes shape, there’s a deep sense of engagement, where problem-solving and refinement come into play. The most fulfilling moment is seeing a completed project come to life, witnessing how people interact with the space. There’s a profound sense of satisfaction in creating something that enhances everyday experiences, whether it’s a serene home, an inspiring workspace, or a vibrant public area. For me, design is not just about aesthetics; it’s about shaping atmospheres that evoke emotion and leave a lasting impact.
MA : My cultural roots and personal experiences have significantly influenced my approach to design. Growing up in an environment that valued craftsmanship and artistic expression, I developed an appreciation for detail, balance, and storytelling. Beyond formal education, travel has played a major role in shaping my design perspective. Observing architectural marvels, diverse urban landscapes, and traditional craftsmanship worldwide has deepened my understanding of spatial harmony and cultural integration. At Meaad Design, we integrate these influences into our work, ensuring that each project reflects both contemporary innovation and timeless cultural values.
MA : I see the next phase of my career as an evolution toward larger-scale projects that redefine architectural boundaries. My goal is to create landmark spaces—whether in hospitality, cultural institutions, or urban developments—that leave a lasting impact on communities. One dream project I aspire to work on is a fully sustainable, net-zero architectural development that harmonizes with its environment while offering unparalleled aesthetic and functional value. At Meaad Design, we are always looking ahead, exploring new materials, sustainable solutions, and innovative approaches to redefine the future of design.
MA : For aspiring designers, my biggest advice is to cultivate curiosity and resilience. The design industry is both rewarding and demanding—it requires constant learning, adaptation, and a willingness to push creative boundaries. Early in my career, I faced challenges in balancing artistic vision with practicality, but I learned that great design emerges from problem-solving and refinement. Young designers should focus on mastering the fundamentals—composition, materials, spatial relationships—while also developing their unique voice. Internships, collaborations, and exposure to real-world projects provide invaluable experience. Surrounding yourself with mentors and learning from industry leaders can accelerate your growth. Most importantly, never stop experimenting. At Meaad Design, we believe that innovation comes from fearless exploration. The best designers are those who remain students of their craft, continuously evolving and embracing new challenges.
MA : Success in design is not just about recognition—it’s about consistency, discipline, and the ability to create work that stands the test of time. One key habit I’ve developed is maintaining a strong design philosophy while being open to new perspectives. Staying adaptable without losing your core vision is essential in a constantly evolving industry. Another principle I follow is balancing creativity with functionality. It’s easy to get carried away with aesthetics, but truly exceptional design seamlessly blends form and purpose. Always ask yourself: How does this space serve its users? What emotions does it evoke? Finally, build strong professional relationships. Collaboration is at the heart of great design. At Meaad Design, we thrive on collective creativity, bringing together architects, designers, and artisans to craft unique experiences. Success is not just about individual achievement—it’s about contributing to a larger design legacy.
MA : Each day as a designer is a blend of creativity, strategy, and execution. My mornings often start with reviewing sketches, refining concepts, or discussing project updates with the team. The middle of the day is usually dedicated to client meetings, site visits, or material selections—ensuring that every detail aligns with the project’s vision. Afternoons and evenings are when I dive deeper into design development, experimenting with layouts, refining technical aspects, and collaborating with engineers and craftsmen. At Meaad Design, we maintain a dynamic yet structured workflow, allowing for both creative freedom and precision. The most fulfilling moments come when a project transitions from concept to reality. Seeing ideas take shape, witnessing a client’s excitement, and knowing that a design will impact people’s daily lives make every challenge worthwhile.
MA : I believe in staying informed about design trends while maintaining a timeless design approach. Trends can offer inspiration, but blindly following them can lead to short-lived solutions. Instead, I focus on principles that have longevity—material authenticity, spatial harmony, and cultural relevance. To stay updated, I explore international design exhibitions, follow leading architects and designers, and study emerging technologies in construction and sustainability. Travel is another major source of inspiration—observing different cultures and historical influences enriches my perspective. At Meaad Design, we filter trends through a lens of innovation and purpose. We adopt new ideas that enhance functionality and aesthetics while ensuring that our designs remain relevant beyond seasonal shifts.
MA : Good design is not just about aesthetics—it’s about how a space or product enhances the human experience. A well-designed project seamlessly integrates form, function, and emotion. If a space feels intuitive, evokes a sense of comfort, and serves its purpose effortlessly, it has achieved good design. One key measure is longevity. Does the design remain relevant over time? Are the materials and craftsmanship built to last? These are questions we consider at Meaad Design when crafting every project. Additionally, good design is about balance—between simplicity and complexity, tradition and innovation, artistry and practicality. When all these elements come together harmoniously, you know a project has succeeded.
MA : Design is an iterative process, and knowing when it’s "ready" is both an instinct and a discipline. A project is complete when every element feels intentional—when no detail feels excessive or unresolved. At Meaad Design, we follow a meticulous review process, testing every aspect for functionality, aesthetics, and user experience. I often take a step back and evaluate the design with fresh eyes—if it still feels cohesive and purposeful after a period of reflection, I know it’s ready. However, I also believe that design is never truly finished. There is always room for refinement, but balancing perfectionism with practicality is key. Deadlines and real-world constraints shape the final outcome, and knowing when to stop is part of the art.
MA : One of my most significant projects was T&S Project, where we faced the challenge of transforming the pillars and values of the company into the interior. The goal was to create a space that blended innovation with cultural identity, ensuring both aesthetic excellence and user comfort. What made this project special was the level of detail and collaboration involved. From material selection to spatial planning, every decision was made with a commitment to craftsmanship and storytelling. The end result was a space that not only fulfilled its functional purpose but also left a lasting impression on those who experienced it. At Meaad Design, we treat every project as our most important one—each design is an opportunity to push creative boundaries and redefine architectural excellence.
MA : I deeply admire the work of Campana Brothers because of their ability to merge artistry with functionality. Their designs have a distinct identity, yet they never compromise on practicality or user experience. If I had the chance to meet one legendary designer, it would be Armani for his project Armani Residences Diriyah. Their ability to innovate while respecting cultural heritage is something I strive for in my own work. At Meaad Design, we draw inspiration from a range of designers, past and present, always seeking to learn from those who redefine the industry.
MA : My lifestyle is deeply intertwined with my design philosophy. I draw inspiration from art, music, travel, and everyday interactions. Exploring different cultures, studying craftsmanship, and observing how people inhabit spaces constantly fuels my creativity. Cultural heritage also plays a major role in my work. I believe in designing spaces that respect tradition while embracing modern innovation. Whether through material choices, spatial compositions, or architectural details, I aim to create designs that feel both contemporary and rooted in history. At Meaad Design, we celebrate diversity and storytelling in design. Every project is an opportunity to craft a unique narrative that reflects the essence of its place and purpose.
MA : At Meaad Design, our work culture is built on collaboration, innovation, and a deep respect for craftsmanship. We believe that great design is never created in isolation—it’s the result of a dynamic exchange of ideas between architects, designers, clients, and artisans. This synergy allows us to push creative boundaries while ensuring that every project remains functional and meaningful. Our business philosophy is centered on quality, integrity, and sustainability. We take a meticulous approach to design, ensuring that each element serves a purpose and contributes to the overall vision. Whether working on a residential project, a hospitality space, or an urban development, we prioritize timeless aesthetics and long-term usability over fleeting trends. Ultimately, we see design as a service to both individuals and communities. Our goal is to create spaces that not only fulfill practical needs but also enhance well-being and inspire a deeper connection to the environment.
MA : I strongly believe that design has the power to create positive change, and I strive to contribute to society through socially responsible projects and mentorship initiatives. At Meaad Design, we actively engage in pro bono work for community-based projects, helping to design spaces that serve underprivileged communities, schools, and cultural institutions. Sustainability is also a major focus of our work. We explore eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient solutions, and sustainable urban planning to minimize environmental impact. By integrating responsible design practices into our projects, we aim to contribute to a healthier and more sustainable built environment. Beyond design, I mentor young architects and designers, helping them navigate the challenges of the industry. I believe that knowledge-sharing is one of the most valuable contributions we can make, ensuring that the next generation of designers continues to innovate and make a difference.
MA : Participating in the A’ Design Award has been an enriching experience, providing both recognition and inspiration. The competition not only celebrates excellence in design but also serves as a global platform for exchanging ideas and pushing creative boundaries. One of the key benefits of entering design competitions is the opportunity for international exposure. Being recognized among some of the best designers in the industry has opened doors for collaboration and new projects, expanding our reach beyond traditional markets. Beyond the accolades, the most valuable aspect is the dialogue it fosters within the design community. It’s an incredible platform to learn from other visionaries, gain fresh perspectives, and continuously refine our approach to design. At Meaad Design, we view such competitions as more than just awards—they are catalysts for growth, innovation, and meaningful connections.
