Interview with Cecilia Pozzi

Cecilia Pozzi ("CP") interviewed on Monday, 30 April.

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?

CP : I graduated in the three-year course of Interior Design at IED Milano (Istituto Europeo di Design, Milan, via A. Sciesa) in 2015. Here I developed an interest in Naval Design due to the collaboration with MONDOMARINE & HOT LAB. Subsequently, I attended a master’s degree course at ‘Politecnico di Milano’ that allowed me to specialise in Product Design. I became a designer because I love imagining and dreaming about everything that can be created.I think I was destined to become a desiger.

How did you become a designer?

CP : I became a designer because I love imagining and dreaming about everything that can be created.I think I was destined to become a desiger. I worked for the architect Simone Micheli's studio. I am a young designer, my studio is still creating, I hope I can do it soon.

What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?

CP : My process of a good design is born with intuition and a strong concept, then we continue with the creation of drawing sketches, then we make a real 3D project to understand how the design works.

Which emotions do you feel when designing?

CP : the most exciting phase of a design is the realization. design makes me happy, but it is an emotion that can not be described. The initial idea is more exciting, and the path of design is the most exciting thing.

What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?

CP : I like to see things work. I would call myself ‘eternal enthusiastic’. I like to carry my job in my interests and my interests in my job. I have a very strong character and I am very sure of myself in my work and in the things I do.I think these skills are allowed to become a designer. The great masters of design have influenced and my design. I always take inspiration from the teachers of the past.

What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?

CP : My dream is to be recognized as an Italian designer. My plans are to open my studio, I hope, with my co-worker Diana Rumbolà. I would like to live in America or in Italy and be able to work planning with a team.

What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?

CP : My advice for new and young designers is to never lose sight of your dreams, work hard and not be afraid to express your ideas. In this world team work is important, we need to know how to listen to advice, even from other young designers.

You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?

CP : I'm a young designer so I don't feel like having much advice. The only advice I can have is to always be humble in one's life.

What is your day to day look like?

CP : I like to start the day with new challenges, I love to design, and test myself in every kind of design, from the product to the graphic one.My day begins with information, looking for new technologies or materials, or the trendy color of the moment.

How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?

CP : I want my designs to reflect my way of being, I also follow trends, but I think the best way to express myself is through design. I'm always looking for the beautiful aesthetic, but functional, with the use of new technologies that respect the environment. I like to do is develop a collection of products and I would take inspiration from everything around me.

How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?

CP : I do not think there are good or bad designs, I evaluate a design based on the type of materials used and the type of technology. I believe we must always be on the cutting edge.

How do you decide if your design is ready?

CP : I decide that my design is ready when I'm satisfied with what it is. When it is physically produced, design will always be a way to improve it.In general I think that you never stop learning.

What is your biggest design work?

CP : I haven't been lucky enough to make a great project yet. I'm still a young designer. But I think all my projects are special for me.

Who is your favourite designer?

CP : There are many. My source of inspiration are the masters of design like: Achille Castiglioni, Cesare Leonardi, Vico Magistretti, Angelo Mangiarotti, Alessandro Mendini, Ettore Sottsass, Zaha Hadid, Le Corbusier

Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?

CP : Now I'm in Italy. At the moment I would like to make the prototype of the lamp being, in order to be able to produce it.I think every city can give us a different stimulus. At the moment my favorite city is New York, but I always change my mind. I think culture greatly influences the type of design.

Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?

CP : I think it's easy to work with me, working alone or in a team. My ideal work partner must know how to listen and our relationship must be of mutual esteem.I believe that the characteristics that a good designer should have are: imagination, creativity, patience, enthusiasm, and humility. In the people who work with me, I'm looking for a "factory of ideas".

What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?

CP : I haven't had the chance to work for the community yet but I would like to try and do pro bono jobs.

What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award?

CP : There are many benefits of participating to design competitions such as the A' Design Award. One of the most important sencondo me is to test yourself as a designer. This competition gives you the opportunity to make known your design and also your professional figure. Competitions can contribute a lot to the realization of their dreams. And I think they are important and relevant as professional growth. I'm so happy to have participated in this competition and I hope I can win another one.
