About Cynthia Gómez Ramírez

Graduate in Textile Design, master’s in business administration, she studied fashion marketing, lifestyle trends, sustainable fashion, and textile experimentation at Central Saint Martin’s School She has received recognition as the best designer and is considered one of the 50 successful women in Mexico by the Expansión group and the Universal newspaper. She founded her studio in 1996, in which she designs her homonym brand, which has specialized in knitted textiles for Fashion and Home, her style characterized by the richness of his colors. She has participate within Fashion Week México, Desfila and Días de Moda platforms for more than 10 seasons. Her collections have been exhibited at the Carrillo Gil Art Museum in the “Boutique” exhibition, at the Ex Teresa Arte Actual Museum “Modas Terminales”, at Design Week Mexico at Espacio Ciudad de México Museum She is currently coordinator of the Fashion Design and Sustainable Textiles program at the IBERO University Design Department. She has been a teacher for more than 10 years, teaching classes in strategic design, fashion and textile design and business management.

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?

How did you become a designer?

CGR : I grew up in a textile family, so since I was little I wanted to be a designer and get involved with the industry.

What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?

CGR : I love working with knitting, colours and innovative tecniques.

Which emotions do you feel when designing?

CGR : Passion, happiness, and joy.

What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?

CGR : organization, responsibility, punctuality, proactiveness and very positivity

What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?

CGR : i dream to transform the new generations with projects that have them hope in this wonderful world.

What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?

CGR : enjoy every project that you are inn.

You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?

CGR : take your time in the research process, that is the key for the inspiration and have more succesful projects

What is your day to day look like?

CGR : exercise, teach, design in my studio, meditated and enjoy a delicious dinner.

How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?

CGR : researching, travelling, visiting museums, festivals and everything that can give some cultural context.

How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?

CGR : if the user adapts it as part of his life

How do you decide if your design is ready?

CGR : when is the time to go out to the market, exhibition o catwalk

What is your biggest design work?

CGR : visualizing pandemic data through the fashion

Who is your favourite designer?

CGR : Missoni, i love his knittings, colours and designs

Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?

CGR : I live in Mexico City, so popular culture is very important in the idea by idea, as well as the identity of our native peoples from whom I have learned their connection with nature and with natural techniques.

Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?

CGR : We like to work with textile experimentation, addressing social and sustainable problems in each project we do.

What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?

CGR : glés We have worked with migrants, people in vulnerable situations, understanding their problems and presenting solutions based on clothing.
