Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?

VD : Throughout my career, I've had the opportunity to work in various capacities within the design industry. With a background in product and quality control management for different sofa companies, I've gained valuable insights into the intricacies of design, manufacturing, and ensuring top-notch quality. My journey as a designer has been shaped by hands-on experience, continuous learning, and a passion for innovation. From conceptualizing innovative products to overseeing their production, my goal has always been to create designs that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional, sustainable, and user-centric.

How did you become a designer?

VD : I became a designer through a combination of formal education, practical experience, and a passion for creativity. After completing my studies in industrial design, I embarked on a journey of continuous learning and exploration, honing my skills and expanding my knowledge base. Hands-on experience working on various design projects allowed me to apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios and develop a deeper understanding of the design process. Along the way, I cultivated a strong passion for innovation and problem-solving, driving me to push boundaries and strive for excellence in every project I undertake.

What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?

VD : My priorities when designing revolve around creating solutions that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing while considering factors such as sustainability and user experience. In terms of technique, I often employ a user-centered design approach, which involves understanding the needs and preferences of the end-users and incorporating their feedback into the design process. As for style, I aim for a balance between modern and timeless design elements, often incorporating clean lines, simple forms, and thoughtful detailing. Ultimately, my goal is to create designs that not only meet the requirements of the brief but also resonate with people on a deeper level, enhancing their lives in meaningful ways.

Which emotions do you feel when designing?

VD : When I'm designing, I often experience a range of emotions depending on the project and the stage of the design process. Sometimes, I feel excited and inspired, especially when I'm exploring new ideas or working on a particularly innovative concept. Other times, I may feel challenged or frustrated, especially when facing design constraints or technical difficulties. Studying design in both formal education and through self-directed learning provided me with a solid foundation in design principles, techniques, and methodologies. Moreover, my exposure to diverse cultures, travel experiences, and interactions with people from different backgrounds have broadened my perspective and enriched my design sensibilities. These experiences have influenced my aesthetic preferences, design inspirations, and understanding of user needs and preferences. Furthermore, my professional experiences working on a variety of design projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and navigating real-world design challenges have been invaluable in shaping my skills, mindset, and approach as a designer. What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?

VD : For designers who are at the beginning of their careers, I have several pieces of advice: 1. Build a Strong Foundation: Invest in acquiring a solid understanding of design principles, techniques, and tools. Whether through formal education, online courses, or self-study, building a strong foundation is essential for growth and success in the field. 2. Practice Regularly: Design is a skill that improves with practice. Set aside time each day to sketch, experiment with new tools and software, and work on personal projects. The more you practice, the better you'll become. 3. Seek Feedback: Don't be afraid to share your work with others and seek constructive feedback. Embrace Failure: Design is an iterative process, and failure is an inevitable part of learning and growth. Don't be discouraged by setbacks or mistakes. This might include meditation, exercise, or simply enjoying a cup of coffee while reviewing my schedule and priorities for the day. Creative Work: I dedicate a portion of my day to creative work, whether it's sketching new design concepts, refining existing ideas, or experimenting with different materials and techniques. This time allows me to tap into my creativity and explore new possibilities in my designs. Meetings and Collaboration: Design is often a collaborative process, so I spend time meeting with colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders to discuss projects, share ideas, and gather feedback. These meetings can take various forms, from brainstorming sessions to design reviews to client presentations. Project Management: Managing projects effectively is crucial to ensuring their success, so I devote time to project management tasks such as scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation. This might involve coordinating with team members, tracking progress, and addressing any issues that arise along the way. Research and Learning: Staying informed about the latest trends, technologies, and best practices is essential for growth as a designer, so I set aside time for research and learning. Reflection and Planning: At the end of the day, I take time to reflect on my accomplishments and challenges, assess my progress toward my goals, and plan for the days and weeks ahead. This reflection helps me stay focused and motivated, ensuring that I continue to make progress toward my objectives as a designer. How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?

VD : To stay current with design trends, I regularly research and observe trends across various design disciplines. Additionally, I pursue continuing education through online courses and workshops, and I collaborate with other professionals to exchange insights and ideas. While it's crucial to adapt to trends, I also prioritize innovation and differentiation to maintain a unique design identity. How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?

Additionally, usability is essential; the product should be intuitive and easy to use, enhancing the user experience. Sustainability is increasingly relevant, with good design incorporating eco-friendly materials and practices to minimize environmental impact. How do you decide if your design is ready?

VD : Deciding if a design is ready involves a combination of intuition, experience, and objective evaluation. The exposure our winning design received helped enhance our visibility and opened new market opportunities.
